The ensemble of Trinity suburb in Minsk

The ensemble of Trinity suburb in Minsk. It was formed on the left bank of the river Svisloch. According to archaeological data, the peopling of Trinity suburb started in the 12th-13th centuries. In the 15th - 17th centuries defensive earth mounds were made and moats were dug around the settlement of Trinity suburb, Lower Market and Rakov suburbs. The suburb itself was built up with wooden houses in the 16 century. Trinity Suburb was connected with the city by a log path, then by the bridge. During the 15th-19th centuries on the territory of the Trinity suburb religious and residential buildings were erected. In the 15 century a wooden church was built on Trinity Hill, there was a market square there. In 1630, a Uniate Trinity Convent of Basilians was organised at the church. In the late 18th century architect F. Kramer reconstructed the convent, erected a monastery building (at present it is the building of the 2nd Clinical Hospital). On the territory of the Trinity suburb Mariavitki convent was located (it was built in the early 19th century, from the middle of the 19th century it was Orthodox Theological Seminary, now Suvorov military school is in its place ). After a fire in 1809 a female Diocesan College was built in Trinity suburb (in 1945-48 it was changed into an administration building). At the highest point of the Trinity suburb a catholic church was located, which burned down in the early 19th century (now in its place there is the Opera and Ballet theatre). In 1980-ies the block building of Trinity suburb was reconstructed (architects C. Baglasov, Y. Gradov, L. Levin). The concept of reconstruction is focused on the reconstitution of the atmosphere of building up of the 19th century with giving it the atmosphere of modern cultural and entertainment district. As a result of the reconstruction a part of the buildings of the 17th century were demolished. The building of the former synagogue was preserved in the quarter (now it is the House of Nature).
